Mike Cashman, Head Coach
Mike Cashman has been involved in the sport of water polo for over fifteen years
as both a player and a coach. Coach Cashman spent his high school summers playing
for legendary coach Jim “Moose” Mulcrone as a member of the Chicago Aquatics and
Water Polo Club. He graduated as a two-time first team All-American and All-State
player from St. Rita High School on Chicago’s southwest side, where he received
the Tony Lawless Player of the Year award his senior year (‘99). That same year
Coach Cashman was also named one of the top 50 players in the nation for his age
group as a member of the Midwest Zone team. He served as an assistant coach to the
Midwest Zone junior national team (’04) and played Division I water polo at Iona
College and has a degree in history from Northwestern University. He is the founder
of the Lakeshore Aquatics and Water Polo Club (’05). Cashman served as the Saint
Ignatius girls assistant coach for three years (’03-’05) where he helped guide the
Wolfpack to the team’s first winning season and two consecutive IHSA sectional titles.
In 2006, Coach Cashman took over the helm as the head coach and guided the Wolfpack
to the IHSA state championship game. Coach Cashman has been the recipient of the
Sectional Coach of the Year award four times and in 2006 received the IHSA Girls
Water Polo Coach of the Year award.
