Wolfpack Wrap Up Season at IHSA State Finals

The Wolfpack wrapped up their season at the IHSA State Meet on Friday at New Trier. Billy Barth posted the highest finish for the Wolfpack, taking 25th in the 100 free to go along with a 44th place showing in the 100 free. Senior captain James Haney was 39th in the 500 free and 42nd in the 200 free. Jesus Juarez was 35th in the 200 IM and 43rd in the 100 fly. Duncan Martinson was 38th in the 100 free and 39th in the 100 back. John Murphy finished 37th in the 1 Meter Diving. The 200 medley relay of Martinson, Kevin Walsh, Juarez and Barth finished 29th and the 400 free relay of Reilly Shields, Martinson, Juarez and Barth took 33rd. The Wolfpack ended their season with a 7-2 record and a total of 9 new team records (5 Varsity/4 Fr-So).

The Pack finished 5th at the MCAC Championships over the weekend. John Murphy opened up the meet with a third place finish in the 1 Meter diving competition. His score of 414.40 broke the oldest school record on the books, eclipsing Ryan Mayer’s 15-year-old record and earning All-Conference honors. James Haney also made the All-Conference team with a 2nd place performance in the 500 free. Top 8 individual performances include Haney (4th 200 free), Tony Imburgia (7th 1M Diving), Jesus Juarez (5th 200 IM / 4th 100 fly), Billy Barth (5th 50 free / 6th 100 free) and Duncan Martinson (7th 100 free / 5th 100 back). The 200 medley of Martinson, Kevin Walsh, Juarez and Barth finished 5th, the 200 free relay of Reilly Shields, Walsh, Tom Dowling and Haney finished 6th and the 400 free relay of Martinson, Barth, Juarez and Haney finished 5th. Additional point scorers include Shields (200 free / 500 free), Dowling (200 IM / 100 back), Walsh (50 free / 100 breast) and Zach Blake (100 fly). Up next for the Wolfpack is the IHSA sectional meet at UIC on February 16th.

The Pack finished 5th at the MCAC Championships over the weekend. The Pack was led by Gunnar Glaab who won the 100 backstroke and took third in the 500 free. Jeremy Knapp finished 3rd in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 free, Aaron Echeverria finished 8th in both the 200 and 500 free and Shane Hughes was 8th in the 100 breast. Glaab, Knapp, Max Richardson and Hughes took 2nd in the 200 medley relay. Andrius Blekys, Richardson, Jalen Woods and Echeverria were 6th in the 200 free relay. Glaab, Knapp, Echeverria and Hughes finished 4th in the 400 free relay. Additional point scorers include Jack Dunn (200 free / 50 free), Jalen Woods (200 IM / 100 back), Richardson (50 free / 100 fly), Blekys (100 fly / 100 breast) and Hughes (100 free).

The Wolfpack placed 5th at the MCAC Championships Saturday. Patrick Kennedy led the way for the Wolfpack, taking 4th in the 50 free and 5th in the 100 fly. Tym Zymon posted a pair of 9th place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 breast. The 200 medley relay team of Theo Mossman, Zymon, Kennedy and Bennett Kang finished 7th, the 200 free relay of Zymon, Kang, Stelmach and Kennedy finished 6th and the 400 free relay of Kang, Stelmach, Mossman and Neil Browne finished 11th. Additional point scorers include Stelmach (200 free / 100 free), Mossman (500 free) and Themio Christy (100 free).

Pack Win Final Home Meet

The Wolfpack defeated Whitney Young on Senior Night. The seniors swimming in their final home meet left a mark as two seniors set new varsity records in winning their specialty events. John Murphy set a new team record in the 1 Meter Diving competition with a score of 260.75. James Haney won a very exciting 500 free race by 0.04 seconds and eclipsed the previous 4 year old mark held by Garrett Mulchrone by over 3 seconds. Double event winners for the Wolfpack include Billy Barth (200 free / 100 free) and Jesus Juarez (200 IM / 100 fly). The Pack too first in both of the free relays and the team is next in action the weekend of February 1-3 for MCAC Conference Meets.

The Wolfpack fell to Fenwick but defeated Brother Rice on Tuesday night. Jesus Juarez picked up a win in the 100 fly and finished 2nd in the 200 IM. Billy Barth and Duncan Martinson each had a second and third place finish in the 50 free and 100 free. John Murphy had a second place showing in the 1M diving and James Haney grabbed second in the 500 free. The 400 free relay of Martinson, Barth, Juarez and Haney finished second.

The Pack finished 4th at the Lockport Invitational over the weekend. The highest individual performance was turned in by Jesus Juarez who took third in the 100 fly. Juarez also took 5th in the 200 IM. Podium performances include James Haney (4th 200 free / 4th 500 free), Billy Barth (4th 50 free / 6th 100 free), Duncan Martinson (5th 100 free / 5th 100 back), Jeremy Knapp (6th 100 back), Kevin Walsh (8th 100 breast) and John Murphy (8th 1M Diving). The 400 free relay of Martinson, Haney, Juarez and Barth finished 4th and the 200 medley relay of Martinson, Walsh, Juarez and Barth took 6th. Additional point scorers include Tom Dowling (200 free / 500 free), Jeremy Knapp (200 IM), Gunnar Glaab (200 IM / 500 free) and Kevin Walsh (50 free). The B 200 medley of Glaab, Knapp, Zach Blake and Shane Hughes finished 9th and the 200 free relay of Knapp, Walsh, Haney, Hughes finished 10th. Ignatius faces Fenwick and Brother Rice on the road Tuesday.

The Pack defeated St. Patrick’s last night, winning 9 of the 12 events including a sweep of the relays. Duncan Martinson led the way for the Wolfpack, winning the 200 and 500 free. John Murphy broke his own school record by over 20 points to win the 1M diving. Event winners include Billy Barth (50 free), Jesus Juarez (100 free) and Gunnar Glaab (100 back). The team is in action this Saturday at the Lockport Invitational.

The Wolfpack finished 5th at the R-B Invite on Saturday. James Haney led the way for the Pack, winning the 500 free and narrowly missing the varsity record. Haney also posted a 3rd place showing in the 200 free. Jeremy Knapp had a runner-up finish in the 100 back to go along with a trio of top 4 relay finishes. John Murphy took third in the 1M Diving. Jesus Juarez was third in the 200 IM and 4th in the 100 fly. Billy Barth was 5th in the 100 free and 6th in the 200 free. Gunnar Glaab was 5th in the 100 back. The 400 free relay of Haney, Duncan Martinson, Juarez and Barth took second. The Fr/So 200 medley of Gunnar Glaab, Aaron Echeverria, Juarez and Shane Hughes finished 2nd as well. The varsity medley (Knapp, Kevin Walsh, Zach Blake, Haney), Fr/So 200 free relay (Knapp, Glaab, Hughes, Echeverra) and the varsity 200 free relay (Barth, Martinson, Walsh, Knapp) all finished 4th. Additional point scorers include Tom Dowling (200 IM), Martinson (50 free / 100 free), Blake (100 fly), Glaab (500 free) and Walsh (100 breast). The team is at home against St. Patrick on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

The Wolfpack competed at the prestigious Evanston Invite on Saturday, finishing 12th in a field featuring many of the state’s best. Duncan Martinson had the highest individual finish for the team on the day, taking 5th place in the 100 freestyle to go with a 15th place showing in the 100 back. Billy Barth took 6th in the 50 free and was 9th in the 100. The 400 free relay of Martinson, Reilly Shields, Barth and James Haney finished in 6th place to mark the highest relay finish for the team. The 200 medley relay (Martinson, Kevin Walsh, Jesus Juarez, Barth) finished 14th and the 200 free relay (Juarez, Walsh, Shields, Jeremy Knapp) finished 12th. Additional top 16 performances include Reilly Shields (16th 200 free) and Jesus Juarez (10th 100 fly).

Leading the way for the Wolfpack were double event winners Billy Barth (200 free / 100 fly), Duncan Martinson (50 free / 500 free) and James Haney (200 IM / 100 free). Jesus Juarez also picked up a win for the team in the 100 breaststroke.

The Wolfpack finished in 3rd place at the Highland Park Pentathlon on Friday. Duncan Martinson finished 6th in the overall individual high point standings and Jesus Juarez finished 9th. Top 10 individual swims include Martinson (5th 50 free, 3rd 50 back 7th 150 free), Jesus Juarez (6th 50 fly, 10th 50 breast), Jeremy Knapp (4th 50 back), James Haney (8th 150 free). The JV squad also finished 3rd as well and were led by Kevin Walsh who finished 3rd in the overall individual high point standings and Shane Hughes finished 10th. Walsh won the 50 free, took 3rd in the 50 fly, placed 7th in the 50 back and took 4th in the 50 breast. Additional top 10 individual swims include Hughes (9th 50 free), Zach Blake (4th 50 fly) and Aaron Echeverria (10th 150 free). The team returns to action on January 3rd against Mt. Carmel and St. Rita.

The Pack fell to #5 Loyola on Friday night despite winning 7 of the 12 events. The Wolfpack were leading with two events to go but could not hold a deep Rambler squad. The meet started off with John Murphy winning the 1 Meter Diving competition and setting a new varsity record of 217.65. The Wolfpack dropped a close medley relay before winning 5 of the next 6 events. Event winners include James Haney (200 free), Billy Barth (50 free), Jesus Juarez (100 fly), Duncan Martinson (100 free), Reilly Shields (500 free) and Jeremy Knapp (100 back). The team heads into exam week and returns to action at the Highland Park Pentathlon on December 28.

Ignatius won 11 of the 12 events contested and were led by a trio of double event winners: Reilly Shields (200 free / 500 free), Jesus Juarez (200 IM / 100 fly) and Duncan Martinson (100 free / 100 back). The team swept all 3 relays and single event winners include Billy Barth (50 free) and John Murphy (1M Diving). The team opens their home schedule on Friday as they welcome #5 Loyola.

The Wolfpack took first place in 6 of the 11 events including a sweep of the relays, the 100 fly and the 100 free. The Pack was led by triple event winners Billy Barth, Duncan Martinson and Jesus Juarez. The medley relay team of Martinson, Kevin Walsh, Juarez and Barth opened up the meet with a victory. The foursome of Jeremy Knapp, Reilly Shields, Walsh and James Haney prevailed in the 200 free relay and Shields, Juarez, Martinson and Barth sealed the team victory with a win in the 400 free relay. Individual event winners included Billy Barth (50 free), Jesus Juarez (100 fly) and Duncan Martinson (100 free).
