Wolfpack Top Jones in Opener
The Pack shook the off-season jitters away as they took their first victory of the season, 3-0, against Jones. With a shaky start, the Wolfpack found themselves in a back-and-forth match throughout the first fifteen minutes of the first half. Then as the Wolfpack began to find their chemistry, the goals came forth. The first tally of the season came from junior captain Sergo Berhane. Then as the half continued, the second goal was scored by freshmen forward Isa Oyuela who received a cross field pass from freshman center back Cammie Shutt. Isa who found success in finding the net earlier, spread the wealth to fellow freshman forward Bella Corral who scored on a 2-on-1 transition. Beginning the second half up 3-0, the Wolfpack found their groove by shutting down the Jones offense. Returning sophomores Liv Andrews, Sofie Kowalski and Julia Espinosa along with reserves Cammie Shutt and Allison Hughes shut down any hope Jones had on the attack. It was a great win for the Pack. The Wolfpack will be back in action on Saturday for their first home game against visiting Leyden.

 Wolfpack Shut Out Leyden
The Pack came out of the gate scoring as they won their first home game in convincing fashion against Leyden with a score of 7-0. The Pack put into practice quick passes and smart game play as team chemistry continued to grow in the early part of this season. The Pack opened up the scoring column with a goal by Sergo Berhane and was assisted by Kiley Del Giudice. Del Giudice would not be held in check as she serviced a second assist to Emma Zupko for the second goal of the match. Following Zupko’s goal, defender Olivia Andrews scored from outside the box and then Bella Corral scored for her second goal of the season. Valeria Fernandez showed some spark off the bench when she scored back-to-back goals and then finally Isabel Oyuela put the seventh goal for the Pack in the net in the final 15 minutes of the first half. Other assists were tallied by Maria Morakalis and Isabel Oyuela. The rest of the game, the Wolfpack isolated the Leyden offense and continued to keep them at bay to help goalkeepers and defenders keep the clean sheet. The Pack start a three-game home stand on Tuesday against visiting New Trier.

The Wolfpack has made it three wins in a row after a solid performance and 1-0 win against visiting Whitney Young. The Wolfpack came out a little jittery at the beginning of the match but settled in quickly on defense to force Whitney Young out of rhythm. Throughout the first half, the Pack battled downfield against the sun but displayed poise, great passing skill and good defensive decision making. Led by centerbacks Julia Espinosa and Cammie Shutt and other defenders Liz Andrews and Sofie Kowalski, the defense showed a strong bond as they were able to communicate and execute quickly and effectively against Young. In the second half, the Pack came on strong and kept the ball on the offensive side for most of the half by playing wide and downhill. The Pack offense kept Young on their toes with a series of corner kicks to where finally Valeria Fernandez notched the lone goal of the match. Sergo Berhane tallied the second of the game off of a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. To end the first half scoring, sophomore Mary Hughes was able to strike a back side header off of a corner kick from Rose Sullivan. In the second half, Sergo Berhane tacked on her second goal of the game and while Fiona Bartholomew scored her first goal of the season off of another header from a corner kick. Pack Keeps Pushing in Win Over Nazareth
The Pack continued to push other teams to the brink of exhaustion as they defeated Nazareth on the road 2-0. An evenly matched game, the Wolfpack was toe-to-toe against the Roadrunners for most of the first half. A nothing-nothing contest at halftime was highlighted by continued pressure by the offense that concentrated on playing the ball wide and often to the opposing baselines with incredible crosses by outside midfield Maya Fassnacht. The Pack continued the intensity in the second half as the Nazareth offense began to slow down. The Pack scored off of a nicely struck ball by Bella Corral that hit crossbar and was rebounded by Rose Sullivan for her first of the season. After the goal, Nazareth had a surge on the attack and with the Pack countering well, the game continued to be a great match. Yet, the Pack would continue to find opportunities that saw Bella Corral put one in the back of the net after so many chances by the offense. With the score 2-0 entering the final ten minutes, the defense continued their dominance by shutting down the attack once again and producing the fifth clean sheet in as many games. The Pack play on Monday on the road against Francis Parker.

In the first GCAC regular season match, the Wolfpack battled and shook off early game sluggishness by winning a hardfought road match at St. Francis, 2-1. With a pressing St. Francis, the Wolfpack defense worked hard and often early in the match. Led by Cammie Shutt and Julia Espinosa along with strong games from Sofie Kowalski, Allison Hughes and Lolo Tiemann, the Pack defense played very well to defend goalkeeper Darcy Schoen who finished the game with six saves. The Pack made adjustments as the game progressed and found a hole in the Spartan defense to find the back of the net on a counter-attack. Sergo Berhane scored off of a breakaway chip shot to bring the score to 1-0 by halftime. Entering the second, the Pack came out and found another breakaway chip shot this time from Fiona Bartholomew that found the back of the net and the Wolfpack found themselves up 2-0 with much of the second half still to play. Ultimately, St. Francis found a small hole in the defense and was able to slip through the middle and was able to score off of their own fast break finish. With the score 2-1 now, the defense just continued to buckle down and show resilience as they were able to shut down any more runs St. Francis had in store. The Pack got a great first win in conference play! Next game for the Pack is this Saturday at home against Niles North.

In the second, the adrenaline and refocused Pack found the net quickly as they scored within the first 5 minutes, with a great through pass by Sergo Berhane to Fiona Bartholomew who was able to beat the defense off the dribble and beat the keeper one-on-one for the finish. Centerbacks Julia Espinosa and Cammie Shutt, keep the middle locked down and center midfield play by Sophie Maday, Emma Zupko, Valeria Fernandez, and Maria Morakalis stepped up to keep the Ramblers from controlling the center of the field. GREAT WIN for the PACK! The Pack close out regular season conference play on Thursday night at home against rival Fenwick.

 Pack End GCAC Season Undefeated
The Wolfpack closed out regular season GCAC play with a win over visiting Fenwick and ended undefeated as they enter the GCAC tournament next week as the #1 seed. A physical game from the beginning, Fenwick and Ignatius traded trips down field until Fenwick began to put more pressure on the Pack. Outside defensive play by Sofie Kowalski and Liv Andrews along with great play by goalkeeper Darci Schoen, kept the Fenwick offense at bay. Towards the latter part of the first half, Fenwick found a chance on net when there was some miscommunication by the defense and they took advantage. Entering halftime, the Pack found themselves in a 1-0 deficit. With a great encouraging speech from defender Allison Hughes, the Pack came out in the second half with reinvigorated sense of desperation and excitement. Maya Fassnacht put Ignatius on the board with an assist from Sergo Berhane. Shortly after, Bella Corral put the Pack ahead on a scrappy play that showed resilience from the offense while being assisted by Liv Andrews. After the second goal, the Pack shut down the Fenwick offense as best they could as center backs Julia Espinosa and Cammie Shutt got the jitters out from the first half and were successful in holding the middle part of the Pack’s side. Great win for the Pack! The Pack travel to Stevenson for a non-conference match on Saturday.

 Wolfpack Defeat Stevenson

The Wolfpack pulled out a big non-conference 1-0 away win against Stevenson on Saturday. The Patriots came out strong and the Pack hung tough throughout the first half as the Pack and the Patriots came to a scoreless draw to end the first half. The Patriots had some success down the middle of the field and the Pack rectified that issue in the second. Strong midfield play by Emma Zupko, Sophie Maday and Valeria Fernandez in the second half showed that the Pack could play toe-to-toe against the Patriots. With the game slowly shifting in the Pack’s direction throughout the second, Ignatius broke through with about 10 minutes remaining when the Patriots goalie came off her line and Maya Fassnacht was able to squeeze a pass into Kathryn Starshak for the finish. After the goal, the Pack shifted to a more defensive formation to shut down the Stevenson attack. A big win to finish off the regular season at 16-2-0. The Pack start the GCAC tournament on Tuesday.

Great Season Ends in Loss to Ramblers
The Wolfpack ended their incredible season on an unfortunate note with a 2-1 home loss against Loyola Academy in the GCAC Tournament Semifinal. Caught on their heels early, the Pack hung tough against a pressuring Rambler offense. The Ramblers found the net about half way through the first half. In the second, the Pack played toe-to-toe with the Ramblers but were unlucky again where Loyola found a small opening to make it 2-0. Not going down without a fight, the Pack fought their way back to 2-1 after Maya Fassnacht found Bella Corral for a strike. Unfortunately, the Pack were unable to find the net once more and saw their season end earlier than expected. Outstanding play from junior goalkeeper, Paulina Delgadillo, that had her best game of her high school career with seven saves and great tenacity! An overall stellar season ending with a record of 16-3-0 the Wolfpack still staked claim to an undefeated regular season GCAC record of 7-0 and a strong team coming back next year. Great season Pack!
