Boys Hockey is a club sport at St Ignatius College Prep. This is similar to all high school hockey programs in the Chicago area. Over the years the Wolfpack hockey program has grown in skill and numbers and now includes both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. Both teams are members of the prestigious and highly competitive Chicago Catholic Hockey League (CCHL). The Wolfpack Varsity and JV home games are played at Johnnys Ice House West located at 2550 West Madison Street in Chicago, just ten minutes from the Saint Ignatius campus.
In addition to games, both teams practice three times during the week on full ice at either Johnnys West or Johnys East ice arenas. Practices start 3:50 pm. Bus service is provided to hockey practice for JV players on school days. The hockey program is proud of its relationship with Johnnys Ice House and ability to offer convenient, primetime after school practice and training opportunities to our student athletes.
In addition to CCHL games, both Varsity and JV teams compete each year in the Loyola Academy Thanksgiving tournament and this year will co - host a national Jesuit High School hockey tournament with Loyola Academy in January in Chicago . Additional non conference games are also scheduled during the season against other top level, non CCHL high school programs in the Chicago area.
At season’s end, both teams participate in the CCHL Kennedy Cup playoffs and the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois High School State Playoffs. Initial season tryouts and practices typically begin the second week of September. Playoffs can extend to mid March.
During the late spring and summer months, team off – season training consists of off ice strength and conditioning workouts and once per week on ice training with the Wolfpack coaching staff.
