Last Season Recap
The Wolfpack varsity finished the year with a very impressive season. The team had
an overall record of 14-2, winning the Lincoln Way Invite, Lockport Invite, Oswego
East Quad and Downers Grove South Quad. The team also won GCAC Championships, took
2nd place at the IHSA Sectional and placed 19th at the IHSA State Finals. This was
one of the best showings for Saint Ignatius at the State Tournament in school history.
Two individual teams qualified for the IHSA State Tournament. The #1 doubles team
of seniors Michelle DeMeo and Bethany Lynch and the #2 doubles team of sophomores
Kate Ryan and Carla O'Byrne led the way for the Wolfpack. Michelle DeMeo and Bethany
Lynch had an amazing finish at the State Tournament, taking 5th place out of 128
teams. After advancing all the way to the quarterfinals of the main draw, the pair
lost to Stevenson. In the consolation draw, they went on to beat Buffalo Grove,
Nazareth and finally Oak Park-River Forest in the finals of the back draw to take
5th place. The school placed 19th overall. This was one of the best showings for
Saint Ignatius at the State Tournament. Also, sophomores Kate Ryan and Carla O'Byrne
had to play a top seed in the first round and lost a close match. They went on to
win the first round in the back draw but then lost a close three set match in the
second round to Crystal Lake South.
The Wolfpack Junior Varsity had a great season as well. The Wolfpack finished with
an overall record of 6-3. All players ended the season with winning records in their
matches. This included a 3rd place finish at the Marian Catholic Invitational. The
JV team finished second in the GCAC Championships.
