Shanahan Headed to IHSA State Finals

The Wolfpack competed in the IHSA Sectional this past weekend and Michael Shanahan qualified for the IHSA State Tournament. Shanahan qualified at 138 pounds in the 2A meet and will begin his bid for a state title on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in Champaign, IL.

Seven Grapplers Headed to IHSA Sectional

The Wolfpack brought ten wrestlers to Roosevelt to compete in the IHSA Regional and placed 2nd with a team total of 121 points this past Saturday. Seven wrestlers qualified for IHSA Sectional competition this Friday and Saturday at Antioch. The Wolfpack was led by individual champions Sean Kulinksi (106 lbs), Michael Close (113 lbs), Michael Shanahan (138 lbs) and Pat Mulkerin (195 lbs). The Pack also had three wrestlers who placed 3rd in their weight class - Niko Polite (120 lbs), Asante Gilchrist (132 pounds) and Atzin Yepiz (170 lbs).

Wolfpack Take Down Austin and Northside

The Wolfpack won two of their three duals on Friday night at their home quad. The Pack defeated Northside Prep and Austin while falling to Gordon Tech. Great performances by Mick Shanahan, Michael Close and Pat Mulkerin with two victories each led the way for the Wolfpack.

Pack Battle in CCL Loss

On Friday, the Wolfpack wrestled Providence and De La Salle. Despite losing both duals due to a thin line-up, the Wolfpack wrestled tough, losing only 2 varsity matches all day. Impressive performances were turned in by Michael Shanahan and Pat Mulkerin.

Shanahan 2nd at Lincoln Tournament

The Wolfpack competed in the very competitive Lincoln Holiday Tournament in Lincoln, Illinois. Place winners were Michael Shanahan who finished in 2nd place and Darryl Johnson who took 7th place.

Pack Drop Three at Tough Quad

The Wolfpack traveled to Chicago Heights for a quadrangular against Marian Catholic, Lane Tech and Kelly. Although hard fought, the Pack fell short in winning all three duals. Two match winners included Michael Shanahan, Darryl Johnson and Atzin Yepiz.

Wolfpack Strong at Simeon Invite

The Wolfpack had a strong showing at the Simeon Bragging Rights Tournament. With just seven wrestlers, the Wolfpack came in 5th place as a team out of 28 schools. Place winners included Sean Kulinski (2nd place at 106 lbs.), Michael Shanahan (2nd place at 145 lbs.), Darryl Johnson (3rd place at 182 lbs.), Pat Mulkerin (3rd place at 195 lbs.), Michael Close (4th place at 113 lbs.) and Atzin Yepiz (4th place at 170 lbs.).

Wolfpack Sweep Home Quad

The Wolfpack swept their home quad this weekend defeating Immaculate Conception 24-6, Kelly 27-12 and St. Benedict 21-6 on Saturday. Andrew Salinas led the Pack with 3 wins at 138 pounds. Niko Polite (113 lbs.), Salvador Curran (152 lbs.) and Luciano Leon (170 lbs.) all picked up 2 wins each.

Wolfpack Hang Tough

The Wolfpack wrestled tough at the St. Patrick's Quadrangular but came out on the losing end in duals against St. Patrick, Fenwick and St. Laurence. Michael Shanahan and Pat Mulkerin lead the Wolfpack with two victories each.

The Wolfpack traveled to Romeoville High School to wrestle Bishop McNamara and Romeoville. A thin lineup cost the Wolfpack two defeats despite wrestling well. Pinning performances came from Michael Shanahan and Agui Fernandez.

Pack Split with St. Joseph and Morton

The Wolfpack took on Morton and St. Joseph in a home triangular last night. The Wolfpack defeated CCL foe St. Joseph 39-26 with great efforts from Colin Sweeney, Pat Mulkerin, Darryl Johnson and Atzin Yepiz. The Wolfpack lost to Morton but was led by hard-fought efforts from Michael Shanahan, Pat Mulkerin and Sean Kulinski.

Tough Start for Wolfpack

Although the Wolfpack line up is thin, the team fought hard in defeats at the hands of Loyola Academy and Mather. Winning wrestlers included Pat Mulkerin with a 5-3 decision versus Loyola, and Atzin Yepiz with a second period fall against Mather.

The Wolfpack traveled to Barrington over the weekend to compete in the Moore-Prettyman Barrington Tournament. After a hard fought tournament, Michael Shanahan took 6th place in the 138 pound division.
