American Political Club
The American Politics Club offers an open forum for the variety of hot topics that
today's society has to deal with. Everybody is given time to put their two cents
into the topic of discussion and yes, try to convince opponents otherwise. Educating
and communicating to students different sides of political issues is the goal of
the club.
Chess Team
Both experienced players and novices might want to consider the Chess Team. This
game requires mental strategy, forethought, and patience - along with a great deal
of practice and teamwork. Our team competes against other Catholic schools. The
season culminates at the State Competition.
Circle of Friends
We help mentally handicapped / developmentally challenged young adults to lead meaningful
and happy lives with dignity and respect. In association with the Ray Graham Training
Center, our members contribute as friends to such events as sporting games, dances,
holiday parties, a clothing drive, a concert, etc. The members benefit from ongoing
education and training in the areas of mental and physical disabilities. The group
is about social inclusion and making real friends.
Classics Club
Students interested in the ancient world—the language, culture, history and mythology
of ancient Greece and Rome—may enjoy Classics Club. In addition to viewing films
such as “Gladiator” and “Troy”, we also attend the annual state convention for the
Illinois Junior Classical League and compete in the Illinois Certamen League, a
quiz bowl-style competition in which teams answer questions covering all aspects
of the ancient world.
Club ALAS (Association of Latin American Students)
The Association of Latin American Students celebrates Hispanic cultures and heritage.
We embrace students of all ethnic backgrounds who enjoy the traditions, food, music
associated with the diverse cultures of Latin America. ALAS members organize and
participate in a mentoring program, Masses of the Novena and the Virgin of Guadalupe,
Festival of Nations, a Banquete for students and their families, as well as other
cultural outings around Chicago.
Club ASIA (Alliance for St. Ignatius Asians)
Club ASIA’s executive board has been rigorously planning for the 5th Annual Club
Asia show, which is going to be an exciting presentation of dances, music and food
for everyone to enjoy. Club ASIA also enjoys activities such as fields trips, movie
days, Dance revolution (DDR) and Guitar Hero competitions. The club is currently
teaching origami-making; it hopes to make 1000 cranes before the show. The club
meets every Tuesday at Rm 345 and welcomes people from all ethnicities.
Club Erin
We are a Saint Ignatius ethnic club welcoming all who wish to experience and learn
more about Gaelic and Irish culture, history, heritage and current events outside
of regular school day activities. Students will share knowledge and experiences
about their heritage and participate in planning and staging events and activities
that interest them.
Club IDEA (Ignatians Determined to Express Art)
Club IDEA provides an outlet for creative students to work in a comfortable
atmosphere. IDEA stands for Ignatians Determined to Express Art. Club IDEA creates
artists out of students unaware of their artistic potential, while pushing current
artists to the edges of their own imagination. It also provides an environment for
students to meet other students with a common interest in the arts, especially drawing,
painting, collaging, jewelry-making, creative writing, poetry and music
(vocal and instrumental). Weekly meetings begin with a short student
presentation for inspiration followed by creative time. At the end
of each meeting, members are encouraged to share their finished work.
Club Interact
Club Interact, in association with the Rotary Club, values “Service above
Self” by encouraging students to participate in a variety of service options.
The club provides for youth development and mentor opportunities.
Club Italia
Club Italia celebrates all things Italian by participating in events related to
the Italian culture. We believe strongly in the beauty and sheer joy of this culture
and take time to celebrate with its food on a regular basis. We also explore its
contribution to Western Civilization in general and the great impact it has had
on the history of Chicago in particular.
Club ISIS (Ignatian Students in Sisterhood)
Club ISIS, Ignatius Students In Sisterhood, focuses on women’s issues both within
the school and the outside world. Yearly activities include women’s empowerment
and self defense classes, movie nights and the farewell Senior Tea. Girls Night
Inn has brought the female students together to discuss peer pressure, sexuality
and the drinking and drug culture. The focus of this evening is on how to protect
yourself from bad decision making. Under the guidance of SICP faculty, girls have
the opportunity to hear what has worked for others and to discuss their challenges
in a non-threatening environment. Club ISIS is open to both male and female students.
Club Ukraine
We are a Saint Ignatius ethnic club welcoming all who wish to experience and learn
more about Ukrainian culture, history, heritage and current events outside of regular
school day activities. Students will gain from each other a knowledge and
similar experiences about their shared heritage and also will be able to participate
in planning and staging events and activities that interest them.
CTA (Community Tutoring Alliance)
The Community Tutoring Alliance tutors students from neighboring elementary schools.
Tutors and tutees work one-on-one throughout the year on all areas of the grammar
school study. A very special relationship often develops between the pair of students
as the year progresses. Social activities such as parties near holidays and field
trips are planned throughout the year. Participation in CTA can be a very rewarding
experience!
Ethnic Clubs
These cultural clubs provide students with opportunities to learn more about their
own and others' ethnic and international backgrounds. The clubs sponsor parent nights,
service projects, social activities, and an ethnic festival in the spring. These
groups celebrate the diversity that Saint Ignatius proudly holds as one of its primary

Film Society
We are a group of cinemaphiles who meet to expand our appreciation of film as an
art form. Discussions of films and voicing of various viewpoints helps to build
self-confidence and a respect for the diversity among the students. One of our goals
is to have a good time while learning more about films and our fellow Ignatians.
French Club
The French Club is devoted to the promotion and celebration of French language and
French-speaking cultures around the world. Biweekly events have included food-tastings,
film viewings, theater outings, and holiday festivities. The French Club is also
a proud participant in Saint Ignatius’s Festival of Nations. Membership is open
to all Francophiles.
French Honor Society
« L'homme qui sait deux langues en vaut deux! »
The Société Honoraire de Français recognizes outstanding students in the study of
French language. This organization of highly motivated students in French provides
an opportunity to experience leadership in serving as officers, to direct the initiation
ceremony and to sponsor service and tutoring activities around French language and
culture.
Frisbee Club
The Frisbee Club provides an opportunity to learn how to throw a Frisbee and play
the game of Ultimate Frisbee, a competitive and athletically oriented team sport
that involves seven people advancing disc over a 125 yard field through a series
of short and long passes against defenders. The team practices twice weekly during
the fall and winter to practice basic disc skills and game strategy. In the spring,
the team competes in the Chicago Ultimate Junior League against teams from area
high schools. No prior experience is required and new members are always welcome.
Genealogy Club
The Genealogy Club of Saint Ignatius College Prep exists to to strengthen the individual’s
knowledge of his or herself, to connect the history of the student’s family to the
study of history in the student’s classes, and to showcase the diversity of Saint
Ignatius to other students.
Harlequins
Our theatrical organization, started in 1927, provides the Saint Ignatius College
Prep community with two energetic performances per year. Past shows include Stephen
Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Neil Simon’s
Fools, Sugar, Woody Allen’s Don’t Drink the Water, The Spitfire Grill,
The Curious Savage, Honk!, Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Lucky
Stiff, and Twentieth Century. The troupe’s productions have
been selected from shows produced from across the state of Illinois to perform at
the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in '94, '96, '97, and ’04.
Ignatius Alumni Mentoring
This organization matches you one-on-one with a graduate of Saint Ignatius who
would help you navigate through your years here. Your mentor provides you with
assistance and support on the basis of his/her experience as a student here and
beyond, his/her professional experience, and his/her life experience.
The group meets as a whole twice a year and individual meetings with
your mentor occur as needed.
IETA (Ignatians for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)
We are Ignatians for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and our group educates its
members and the wider school communities on the important work of protecting animals
from exploitation, neglect, and abuse. We also sponsor letter campaigns, and encourage
volunteer work at animal shelters.
Ignatian Health Coalition
Organize, support, and encourage students and the SICP community to be aware and
actively involved in healthy living. Health promotion related activities and education
will be offered to provide opportunities to further these goals.
Ignatian Improv
Improvisational theater is an exciting fine arts activity that gives the students
the forum to leap out of the 'ravines' of everyday life, and create exhilaration
on a stage. Meeting weekly the Improv group practices their skills at not being
prepared yet creating comedy and spirit; sometimes the mere survival to perform
again is the most immediate desire, but in that lies the amusing electricity that
is Ignatius Improv.
Ignatians Committed to Peace
Ignatians Committed To Peace is the St. Ignatius club dedicated to addressing issues
of peace internationally in an effort to live out the Ignatian value of social justice.
This club meets weekly to discuss and act on issues related to oppression of the
poor and disenfranchised here in Chicago and in the world community.
International Club
The International Club hopes to support and engage Saint Ignatius students who who
have studied abroad, are studying abroad, or are thinking of studying abroad, either
in high school or college.
ISEED (Ignatians Serving to Experience and Embrace Diversity)
ISEED is an organization that promotes and leads diversity initiatives and programs
at Saint Ignatius. Through such activities as Mix-It-Up Day and Diversity Dialogues,
ISEED fosters active school community awareness of diversity issues.
IVC (Ignatian Volunteer Corps)
The Ignatian Volunteer Corps seeks to be of service to one another and the larger
community; to be "men and women for others." Additionally, IVC hopes to
increase the level of awareness in our students of the problems of social inequity
within our country and our world. IVC accomplishes this through activities such
as a Halloween party for the neighborhood children, planning the Hunger Awareness
Month, and Peace and Justice Week. We also sponsor monthly projects such as neighborhood
clean-ups, working soup kitchens, coordinating a food drive, and coordinating Family
Reading Night at community centers. Students may receive community service hours
through their commitment to IVC.
Job Program
St. Ignatius operates a job referral program. Through the cooperation of alumni
and friends of the school, many job openings are referred to the school.
Interested students should consult the school's jobs coordinator.
Latin Honor Society
The Latin Honor Society exists to honor outstanding scholarship in Latin; to encourage
interest in the Classics among students at all levels; to promote an attitude of
service of its members toward their peers, teachers, and the communities; to provide
a fellowship of persons who have excelled in Latin.
Literary Organizations
If writing or publishing is your interest, you may wish to join one of our student
literary co-curriculars. These activities engage thoughtful and creative writers
to publish their work through highly visible media involving sophisticated technology
and style. Saint Ignatius has three long-standing publications:

Math Teams
At the senior, junior, sophomore, and freshman levels, these students represent
Saint Ignatius at various mathematics competitions in the Chicago area.
Boss (The Black Organization of Successful Students)
The mission of this ethnic club is to foster an appreciation for and an awareness
of African American culture and also to support students of African American descent
at Saint Ignatius. Activities include the annual Family Picnic, the Big Brother
and Big Sister program tutoring elementary students, Anthology, and social and cultural
field trips.
National Honor Society
Members of the NHS are elected in either their junior or senior year by the faculty
based upon quality of service, scholarship, and leadership. The Rev. Arnold Damen,
S.J. Chapter of the national organization of honor societies functions as a service
community of Saint Ignatius.
Outdoor Ecology Club
The main goal of our ecologically minded group is to raise awareness of Environmental
Issues and to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Environmental service projects and
field trips are sponsored each year.
Pack Pride
Pack Pride is a group of energetic Ignatius students who want to initiate fan support
for athletic contests. Pack Pride members will create opportunities for other Ignatians
to join them in cheering on the student-athletes of Saint Ignatius College Prep.
Pep Band
We provide an opportunity for students to play both fun and challenging music, and
spread school spirit during Pep Rallies, Football games, Basketball games, and other
school events. The band meets once a week for an hour to rehearse and performs once
or twice a week. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to join (need to be
able to read music). The following instruments are found in the Pep Band: Flute,
Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba, and Drums.

Peer Tutoring
The Peer Tutoring Organization gives students the opportunity to be Men and Women
for Others by allowing them to share their intellectual gifts with each other. The
members of the organization exemplify the grad at grad values through their commitment
to helping their fellow classmates succeed academically.
Photography Club
The Photography Club has two goals. First, to help students learn the techniques
of using a digital camera, whether it is a simple point-and-shoot model or a more
sophisticated SLR model. Second, in order to practice their skills, members will
be assigned to take pictures for PREP, the school yearbook. The club meets once
a week.
Ping Pong Club
The Saint Ignatius Ping-Pong Club is centered around building community and friendly
competition for players of all skill levels. It seeks members who wish to dedicate
themselves to ping-pong not as a hobby but as a passion. With these things in mind,
it is also about having fun.
PREP
The Saint Ignatius yearbook, PREP, chronicles the events of each year. It attempts
to become a history of the school year. Currently, students learn to use the Adobe
InDesign program with the Jostens template to lay out and produce each page. They
also learn how to write copy and captions, as well as to use a digital camera and
crop pictures. Students learn a wide array of technical and leadership skills through
their commitment to the yearbook.
Recycling Club
Recyclers meet weekly after school to gather all materials from the blue recycling
bins located throughout the classrooms and offices of Saint Ignatius. These materials
are then sorted and boxed to be picked up by the recycling center. Freshmen may
receive community service hours through their commitment to this valuable service.
SADD
Students Against Destructive Decisions is a large group formed to alert students
to the dangers of drinking and driving and to conduct community awareness programs.
Take a stand for yourself and others and participate in this proactive effort.
Scholastic Bowl
Our Academic Team competes in question and answer competitions that test teamwork,
quick recall ability and students' depth of knowledge in math, science, literature,
social sciences, fine arts, language arts, and general knowledge. Juniors and seniors
compete in IHSA-sanctioned varsity level matches; freshmen and sophomores compete
with opponents from their own age group on the junior varsity level.
SIMUN (Saint Ignatius Model United Nations)
The Saint Ignatius Model UN affords students the opportunity to participate in authentic
simulations of the United Nations. Students learn to debate current issues; learn
about the international community and develop research, writing, public speaking
and conflict resolution skills. SIMUN hosts a Model United Nations conference each
fall for local high schools. Saint Ignatius also competes in major conferences in
the Chicagoland area as well as at major cities throughout the country including
Washington D.C., New York, and Boston.
SICP Pro-Life League
The SICP Pro-Life League exists to raise awareness of the sanctity of human life
from conception to natural death.
Sociedad Honoraria Hispanicia
The Spanish Honor Society is an organization of exceptional 3rd, 4th,
and 5th year students of Spanish. It conducts free tutoring for struggling
1st and 2nd year Spanish students, as well as sponsors several
social events throughout the year.
Speech organizations
Students involved in Forensics and Student Congress are interested in public speaking,
dramatic interpretation, and congressional debate. These two traditional and highly
acclaimed groups are successful in local, state, and national competitions.
STEP Team
Students who can keep the beat and encourage others to move along, are welcomed
in this club. The ability to stomp your feet, snap your fingers, and clap your hands
is a must. Students perform at pep rallies and other functions.
Students Committed to Social Action
Students participating in this club become actively involved with social issues
and attempt to “make a difference” in world events . Participation in
World AIDS Day, a Peace Vigil, the National Day of Silence, and letter writing campaigns
are a few of our main projects.
Student Council
This student organization provides an opportunity for young men and women to learn
about leadership, organization skills, achievement, and team building. The council
is composed of elected representatives for each class and led by an elected executive
board. In addition to planning and sponsoring extracurricular events, members of
Student Council actively participate in fundraisers, consciousness raising, and
service projects.
Wolfpack Media
Students will explore the use of audio and digital video resources to document and
broadcast school events. The events may be carried live over the Internet or stored
as part of the school's digital media archives. These broadcasts will be available
for instructional use in the classroom and for general informational use. Students
will be exposed to the entire production process from the pre-production work of
scripting and researching to the post-production work of audio and video editing.
WYSE (World Youth in Science and Engineering)
World Youth in Science and Engineering is an academic competition allowing students
to demonstrate their abilities in two of the following areas: biology, chemistry,
computer fundamentals, engineering graphics, English, math, physics and society
and technology. WYSE is sponsored and headquartered at the University of Illinois
at Urbana. The Saint Ignatius squad took third in the state last year in competition
at the University of Illinois.
