Late Hinsdale Rally Ends Season

Hinsdale Central rallied for three fourth quarter goals and ended the season of the Saint Ignatius varsity lacrosse team (12-8) in a 9-6 loss to the suburban hosts. The Pack jumped to a 3-0 lead on first period on goals by Chris Basili from Will Yorke, Jack Gavin from Basili and a solo Yorke tally. The Red Devils rallied for a 3-3 tie at half. After a Devil goal, Brendan McNicholas found Gavin who tied the game at four. The hosts pushed to a 6-4 margin before Yorke answered with a pair of goals for the game's third tie at six apiece early in the fourth set. A three-goal Hinsdale rally then ended the Wolfpack season in a 9-6 loss. Longpoles Mike Flynn and Mike Fuentes combined for three grounders and six takeaways while Luke Mulchrone, James Krumme, Tim O'Neil, John McGowan and John Browne added ten grounders and four steals in defensive play. Goalie Jabari Copeland stopped a dozen shots for the Pack who played a strong game and rallied twice but fell just short late in the season finale.

Seniors Lead Pack Over Lane Tech

Jack Gavin netted six goals while classmate Chris Basili added a goal, four assists and 16 face-off wins as the seniors led the Wolfpack (12-7) over Lane Tech by a 16-10 margin in a sunny Senior Day contest on Saturday afternoon. Seniors Patrick Murray, Jack Thompson and Kevin Kelly combined for two goals and two assists for the maroon and gold in the win. Underclassmen Brendan McNicholas and Will Yorke added four goals and three assists and three goals and three assists. Senior longpoles Mike Fuentes, Luke Mulchrone, Joe Petrosino and Gavin Hooper combined for six grounders and a steal while at midfield seniors John Browne, DJ Laux, Jud Richardson, Kevin McGuire, Ed Hannon and Kelly aggregated six grounders and three swipes in defensive play. Mike Flynn led the underclassmen longpoles with three grounders and three takeaways and his classmate, goalie Jabari Copeland, netted 11 saves for the Pack who enter the play-offs with eight wins in their last nine regular season games.

Pack JV Strolls Over Lane

The Wolfpack turned in another decisive win, defeating Lane Tech 17-2. Jim Herber led the assault with five goals. Ryan Larkin powered in three for a hat trick followed by Matt Babirak and Sean Lynch with two each. Gillespie, Prieto, Korabik, Basler and Mizerek each logged a goal for good measure. Lynch and Mizerek each assisted twice with Mazzella, Larkin and Malisch each contributing an assist as well. Defensively, the Pack rang up 38 grounders and 15 takeaways. Leading the way with five grounders apiece were Larkin and Flynn supported by McNally and Babirak who each added another four. Korabik’s longpole goal came on a takeaway, one of a team-leading five on the day. In goal Will Gaudet only allowed two goals out of eight total shots.

Wolfpack Shells Mather

The Pack notched an 18-0 victory against Mather's varsity team as they put up 53 shots on goal. The decisive goals were scored by Leo Lillard, Dante Domenella and longpole Brendan McNally. Hats off to the defensive squad which all but shut down the Mather offense, allowing only nine shots for the entire game.

The Wolfpack (10-2 overall) rolled through Waubonsie Valley with a 5-2 win. Wolfpack scoring came from all over the box with one goal each from attackmen Jackson Foellmer, John Hannon and Grant Lamble and from mid fielders Cormack Donahue and Peter Platt. The Wolfpack's no-let-up defense held their opponent scoreless in the first half and gave up only two goals in the second. Josh Brainin and Luke Soenen both pulled in four ground balls and forced multiple take-aways.

On Monday night the Pack (9-2) won an exciting match 6-5 on the road over favored Barrington. Though the Pack held a comfortable lead for three quarters, Barrington turned it on in the fourth quarter, putting up a stunning number of shots on goal in the fourth and narrowing a four-goal lead to one. It was an action-packed evening for goalie John O'Malley who put up 16 saves. Determined to put this game in the win column, midfielder Cormak Donahue led the team all over the field, assisting on two goals, raking in four ground balls, forcing three take-aways and dominating on face-offs. John Hannon put in three goals and an assist. Brenden Narko's four ground balls and three take-aways helped the Wolfpack control the ball and win the game.

The Pack (12-7) raced past the Barrington Broncos in a 13-1 win on Monday. Will Yorke led the offensive barrage with four goals and two assists while Brendan McNicholas and Chris Basili netted three goals apiece. Jack Gavin, Patrick Murray and Brian King each added a tally while Murray, Tony Fuentes, Patrick Durkin, Casey McDonald and Kevin Kelly each earned an assist and Gavin dished for two helpers for the hosts. Fuentes and Basili combined for a season best 17 of 18 face-off wins and Mike Flynn led the longpoles with five grounders and three takeaways while Mike Fuentes, Luke Mulchrone, Tim O'Neil and James Krumme combined for ten grounders and a pair of steals. Middies Ed Hannon and John McGowan added six scoops and two takeaways while Jabari Copeland made 11 saves in net for the Pack who held a 45-17 margin in shots and raced past the Broncos for the maroon and gold's seventh win in their last eight outings.

The Pack racked up a win on Saturday in its game against the St. Charles East Fighting Saints. Ignatius closed out the first half with a respectable 3-2 showing with two goals by Phil Gillespie (the first assisted by Jim Herber) and one by Cormack Donahue (assist Mitch Mizerek). The Pack thwacked the Saints in the third with five unanswered goals by Matt Babirak with two (the first assisted by Donny Flynn) and one each for Sean Lynch (assist Mike Basler), Jim Herber (assist Donahue) and Donahue (assist Lynch). Penalty trouble in the fourth caused the Pack to give back some of their lead but the Pack prevailed 8-6. Goalie Johnny O'Malley notched eight saves in the first half and Will Gaudet followed with four saves in the second half. The Pack ate up 34 grounders and had 11 take-aways in an admirable defensive showing.

The Wolfpack (11-7 overall) lost a dramatic defensive duel by a 4-2 margin to St. Charles East on Saturday. After a scoreless first period, the Fighting Saints scored but Will Yorke answered within seconds with a goal that knotted the score at ones. The orange jerseys pushed across a pair of tallies for a 3-1 halftime lead. Brendan McNicholas opened the second half with goal that narrowed the maroon and gold deficit to 3-2 before the visitors added a fourth quarter score in the 4-2 loss. Goalie Jabari Copland netted a dozen saves in the Pack net, including several acrobatic stops, in a stellar performance. Luke Mulchrone led the Pack defense with four grounders and a takeaway.

The Wolfpack (8-2 overall) chalked up another win on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over St. Charles East. After leading 1-0 at the half, the Fighting Saints took a 2-1 lead. Three minutes into the third quarter the Pack exploded with four goals led by Grant Lamble’s hat trick, the third off a handy assist from Peter Platt. Ignatius defense locked down to hold on for the win behind solid play from defenseman Josh Brainin (two ground balls) and Joe Tonner (three ground balls).

Pack Can't Thwart Waubonsie Comeback

The Wolfpack got off to a strong start but was unable to stop a late 8-7 comeback win for Waubonsie Valley. After leading 4-3 at the end of the first half with goals by Jim Herber (2 goals) assisted by Sean Lynch, Phil Gillespie and Cormack Donahue, the Pack expanded its lead by the end of the third to 7-4 with goals by Mitch Mizerek, Lynch and Donahue. The Warriors roared back in the fourth quarter, stunning the Pack with an 8-7 defeat. Brendan McNally led the Wolfpack with five grounders and attackers Donahue and Herber added four apiece. McNally and Donahue each added three takeaways to lead the team. Joe Garvey continued to excel at the face-off, winning 11 of 18 in the match.

The Wolfpack (11-6) soared past the visiting Taft Eagles by a 15-0 tally on Saturday afternoon. Brothers Kevin and Patrick O'Malley each netted three goals and Brian King dished for five assists along with a goal in the one-sided win. Brendan McNicholas, Kevin McGuire, Casey McDonald, Jack Gavin, Chris Basili, Jack Thompson, Tim O'Neil and Mitch Mizerek each added a goal for the Pack. Joe Petrosino led the defense with three steals and four grounders while longpoles Gavin Hooper, Luke Mulchrone and Mike Flynn each swiped three takeaways and lifted three grounders. Tony Fuentes won four of the Pack's 14 face-off wins. Will Gaudet earned the first Pack shutout of the season with two saves for their fifth straight win.

With a 5-3 win, the Wolfpack (7-2) surprised an aggressive Hinsdale Central opponent whose roster outnumbered the Pack and with their barrage of shots in the opening two minutes, it looked like it might be a long day. The Wolfpack defense did the job once again in front of goalie Johnny O’Malley (14 saves). Luke Soenen pulled in three ground balls and John Tonner showed up in big way with key defensive stops. Left side attack Jackson Foellmer led all scorers with two goals.

The Wolfpack (10-6) relied on strong goaltending and defense and dropped the Whitney Young Dolphins by a 9-4 margin. Goalies Jabari Copeland and Will Gaudet combined for 16 saves while longpoles Mike Fuentes, Mike Flynn, Luke Mulchrone, James Krumme, Joe Petrosino, Brendan McNally, Gavin Hooper and Tim O'Neil added seven steals, 16 grounders, several heavy checks and numerous deflected shots. Middies John McGowan, DJ Laux and Jack Thompson chipped in six steals and three scoops in the defensive display while Chris Basili and Tony Fuentes started the offense with ten wins in 15 face-off chances. A pair of Basili goals and strikes by Jack Gavin, Will Yorke, Brendan McNicholas and McGowan pushed the Pack lead to 6-1 at half. Two second half Yorke goals and a McNicholas tally, with a pair of assists to Brian King, upped the maroon and gold lead to 9-2 before two late Dolphin tallies left the final at 9-4 in the Pack's fifth win in the past six outings.

The Wolfpack (9-6) toppled the St. Laurence Vikings in a 15-3 win in Burbank on Monday evening. After the hosts answered a Jack Gavin tally from Chris Basili, the Pack ran off seven consecutive goals. They included a pair of strikes by Patrick Murray with one assist from Brendan McNicholas and solo goals by Brian King, Patrick Durkin and Gavin who set up a tally by Casey McDonald while Kevin McGuire set up Kevin O'Malley for an 8-1 halftime lead. The maroon jerseys answered a Viking goal with a pair of goals by Will Yorke and singles by Patrick O'Malley from Kevin O'Malley, King and McDonald who set up Jack Thompson before Kevin McGuire traded goals with the Vikings. Longpoles Mike Flynn, James Krumme, Billy Miya and Brendan McNally combined for eight grounders and seven steals while defenders Mike Fuentes, Luke Mulchrone, Caleb Lawler, John Browne and Mitch Mizerek added an aggregate seven scoops. Jabari Copeland and Will Gaudet shared net duties, blocking six Viking tosses.

The Pack (8-6) earned a payback for its perseverance in a 10-9 win over St. Charles North on Saturday night. A pair of Chris Basili goals knotted the score at two apiece before the hosts, Illinois' 5th ranked team, ran off five consecutive goals for a 7-2 lead early in the second half. The maroon jerseys persevered and narrowed the deficit to 8-7 after three quarters on two goals by Basili, one assisted by Brendan McNicholas, a McNicholas goal from Jack Gavin, a Gavin goal from McNicholas and a solo Patrick Murray strike. The North Stars and McNicholas traded goals that left the Pack with a 9-8 deficit before Patrick Durkin netted the game-tying goal from McNicholas who added the game-winner with just minutes remaining. Goalie Jabari Copeland netted 15 saves for the Pack while Mike Flynn led the loopholes with five takeaways and a pair of grounders. Defensemen Mike Fuentes, Luke Mulchrone and James Krumme and middie John McGowan added six grounders and a steal while attackmen McNicholas, Gavin and Will Yorke contributed nine groundballs and three steals to a strong team defensive effort.

The deep bench of the Wolfpack (7-6) wore down Mt. Carmel and a late three goal rally sank the Caravan by an 8-6 margin on Thursday evening on the south side. A Kevin O'Malley goal, from Will Yorke, and a solo Yorke strike evened the count a two apiece before goals from Brendan McNicholas and Jack Gavin, from Patrick Murray, gave the maroon jerseys a narrow 4-3 halftime lead. The hosts grabbed a 5-4 lead before Yorke answered for the Pack in the final quarter with three goals, one from Patrick Durkin, for a 7-6 lead. Jack Gavin added an insurance goal from Yorke who posted a rare six point night in the 8-6 win. John McGowan led the defense with six grounders and three steals while longpoles Luke Mulchrone, Mike Fuentes, Joe Petrosino, Billy Miya, James Krumme, Tim O'Neil and Mike Flynn accumulated seventeen grounders and ten takeaways. Tony Fuentes added seven face-off wins while Jabari Copeland and John O'Malley stopped four Caravan shots and the deep Pack bench sank the Caravan in a busy 8-6 win.

The Wolfpack traveled to the south side and earned a commanding 13-2 victory over the Caravan of Mt. Carmel on Thursday. The Pack’s offense looked and played smart from the get-go with nearly everyone contributing. Attackman Jim Herber led the tally with four goals and two assists while Attackman Cormack Donahue with a hat trick and an assist. Middle Phil Gillespie scored two and Joe Garvey, Michael Basler, Donnie Flynn and Sean Lynch each racked up a goal along the way as well. Midfielders Ryan Larkin and Matt Babirak were in the mix with two assists each and even goalie Will Gaudet notched an assist. Defensively the Pack was equally compelling across the board, scraping up 23 grounders with Donahue (4), Flood (3) leading the team and ten take-aways led by Aidan Flood (3), Brendan McNally and David Mazzella with a pair each.

Tuesday’s swampy game on Hinsdale Central’s home turf ended in a disappointing 3-2 loss for the Wolfpack. Despite the steady downpour, goalie Will Gaudet (11 of 19 shots) shut down the Red Devils for the entire first half. The Pack hit its stride in the second quarter with a goal by Attackman Cormack Donahue assisted by Jim Herber to close out the half. The Pack (3-4 overall) roared out in the third quarter with a beautifully swiped grounder into the busy Hinsdale net by Ryan Larkin. Late in the third quarter, the Devils scored their first goal and added two more in the 4th, to take the lead with less than five minutes to play. With emotions running high and the clock wound down to two seconds remaining in the game, midfielder Phil Gillespie fired a low, hard shot into a heavily defended Devils goal but no goal was called as time expired. Brendan McNally led the defensive effort with 5 grounders, and Middie Matt Babirak added another 4 in a strong defensive demonstration under subpar conditions.

The Wolfpack (6-6) experienced drizzle fizzle when Hinsdale Central defeated the visitors by a 9-5 tally in a steady rain on Tuesday night in the western suburb. A pair of goals by Jack Gavin, one from Brendan McNicholas, evened the score at two apiece before three Red Devil strikes answered only by a Chris Basili goal left the drenched maroon jerseys with a 5-3 deficit at half. Another Gavin, from McNicholas, tally cut the deficit to 6-4 and a McNicholas goal cut the deficit to 7-5 before two late Devil goals iced the 9-5 win as temperatures fell. Mike Flynn led the longpoles with a pair of steals and four grounders while Mike Fuentes, Tim O'Neil and Luke Mulchrone, along with defensive middies DJ Laux and Sam McCartney, combined for three swipes and ten grounders. Jabari Copland netted a dozen saves in net.

The Pack (5-2) won a defensive tug-of-war 4-3 that went to sudden death overtime that Cormack Donahue settled quickly by taking the face off and scoring his second goal of the game. Down 2-0 at halftime the Wolfpack was stymied by Naperville North’s quick-sliding defense. Goalie John O’Malley had six saves for the game while the defense allowed only two shots in the second half. Brendan Narko had two takeaways and two ground balls while Jackson Foellmer raked in five ground balls. Eric Smith scored in the third quarter on an assist from Grant Lamble, who quickly scored again off an assist from Luke Soenen.

The Pack (6-5) held off a second half surge by Naperville North and defeated the visiting Huskies by a 7-5 count on Saturday afternoon. The Pack jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by Brendan McNicholas (from Chris Basili), Will Yorke and Patrick Murray (from Jack Gavin) before the orange jerseys found the net. Tallies by Murray and Gavin (form Murray) made it 5-1 at half. The Huskies rallied for two goals before Chris Basili (from Kevin Kelly) doubled the score t 6-3. The visitors resumed the rally with two goals before Gavin (from Murray) added an insurance goal late in the 7-5 win. Sam McCartney led the defense with six grounders while fellow defenders Mike Fuentes, Mike Flynn, Billy Miya, Luke Mulchrone, Tim O'Neil and DJ Laux combined for seven grounders and six takeaways. Jabari Copeland netted eight saves in net for the Wolfpack while holding off a second half Huskies surge in the 7-5 win.

Wolfpack Defeats Stubborn Naperville North

Saturday’s match against Naperville North resulted in a 6-4 Wolfpack (3-3 overall) victory. Offensively, the Pack notched two first quarter goals by Mitch Mizerek who spun around from “X” to score a nicely-placed shot from the side and the second by Middie Sean Lynch (2 goals) who dodged his way through the defense to bounce one in. Attackman Cormack Donahue added a goal on a sweet assist in traffic from Matt Babirak but Naperville would add two of their own. The third quarter was evenly matched with Naperville briefly tying the Pack twice in the quarter. Sean Lynch provided a picture-perfect assist to Jim Herber who scored in traffic and Donny Flynn scored an amazing buzzer-beater at the end of the third which put the Pack ahead for good. On the defensive side, goalie Will Gaudet had 10 saves while Donahue and longpoles A.J. Korabik and Brendan McNally had four grounders each. McNally, Mizerek and fellow longpoles Aidan Flood and Caleb Lawler nabbed two takeaways apiece.

Pack Never Trails; Loses in OT

The Wolfpack (5-5) never trailed and only a Waubonsie Valley goal with no time remaining forced overtime in an 9-8 loss in Aurora on Tuesday afternoon. Jack Gavin (from Brendan McNicholas) opened the scoring and, after a Warrior goal, Gavin followed with a pair of goals (from Kevin Kelly and Chris Basili) for a 3-1 lead. The host team and Chris Basili (from McNicholas) traded two goals and the maroon jerseys led 5-3 at half. Second half goals from Will Yorke, Gavin (from Kelly) and Basili (from Patrick Murray) kept the Pack in the lead until the green and white scored on a free clear with two long seconds remaining and then scored again in overtime to steal a 9-8 win. The Pack controlled much of the play with 15 face-off wins and 11 grounders by Chris Basili and long passing possessions in the offensive zone, and despite never trailing in the game, the Pack suffered their third overtime loss of the season.

The Wolfpack upped its record to 4-2 with a two-game sweep over the weekend. On Saturday morning the Pack defeated Brother Rice by a 10-2 margin led by three-goal games from Grant Lamble, John Hannon and Peter Platt. Jackson Foellmer added a goal while Platt scooped eight grounders for the winners. The Pack traveled to St. Rita on Friday afternoon and John O'Malley led the maroon and gold to a 4-0 shutout win with five saves. John Hannon, Eric smith, Cormack Donahue and Grant Lamble each tossed a goal for the winners. Last weekend Ignatius ran past Grayslake Central in an 8-1 win on the turf. John Hannon led the way with three goals while David Cooney and Grant Lamble each scored a pair of tallies for the Pack. Goalie John O'Malley stopped a dozen Grayslake shots while Cooney scooped five grounders in the win. During spring break the Pack lost a close 5-2 contest to Loyola in Glenview. John O'Malley kept his team in the game with 17 saves but goals by Jackson Foellmer and Peter Platt were not enough against the powerful Ramblers. Earlier, the Pack fell to Fenwick by a 5-2 count after opening the season with a 5-4 win over OPRF. Grant Lamble led the way in the win with three goals while John Hannon and Eric Smith each netted a tally in the season opener. John O'Malley blocked 11 tosses from the Huskies in the win.

The Wolfpack (4-4 overall) needed double overtime and a five-goal rally to defeat St. Rita by an 8-7 margin on a cold Friday night in south Chicago. Patrick Murray (from Kevin Kelly) gave the Pack a 1-0 lead before Brendan McNicholas doubled the count at 2-0 but the Mustangs rallied for a 3-2 halftime lead. Will Yorke traded goals with the hosts before the home team ran off three goals in 75 seconds for a 7-3 lead late in the third period. Yorke (from Murray) started the rally with a goal followed by a pair of Jack Gavin strikes (one from McNicholas) before Yorke sent the game into overtime at 7-7 with a clutch goal just seconds before the final horn. The maroon jerseys killed a second overtime man-down before Patrick Murray (from Gavin) netted the game-winning goal in the final seconds of extra time. Mike Fuentes and Mike Flynn led the defense with three takeaways apiece and a combined seven grounders along with some heavy checks while middies Kevin Kelly and John McGowan combined for five takeaways. Jabari Copeland netted ten saves for the Pack who capped a five-goal comeback rally in double overtime in a determined effort that yielded an 8-7 win.

The Pack (5-4 overall) relied on strong team defense that featured 20 takeaways by 13 players, including an interception and score by DJ Laux, en route to an 8-2 win on Saturday afternoon on the turf. Will Yorke (from Kevin Kelly), John McGowan and Brendan McNicholas (from Kevin O'Malley) each scored a first half Wolfpack goal before the Laux fast break goal gave the Pack a 4-1 halftime lead. McNicholas added a pair of second half tallys (one from Casey McDonald) while McDonald and Jack Gavin (from McGowan) finshed the scoring in the win. Mike Flynn led the longppoles with four takeaways and four grounders while defensive players Mike Fuentes, Billy Miya, James Krumme, Sam McCartney and Laux added six steals and seven scoops. John McGowan led the middies on defense with three takeaways and Jack Gavin added two steals from attack. Goalie Jabari Copeland netted six saves and the aggressive team defense including a perfect four-for-four man down kill helped the Pack stop the Crusaders in the 8-2 win.

A six-goal comeback by host St. Rita stunned the Pack (1-3) in a 6-5 overtime loss on Friday night. Phil Gillespie (from Matt Babirak) opened the scoring before Babirak (from Donny Flynn) pushed the Pack lead to 2-0. Jim Herber added a goal followed by a Donny Flynn tally (from Brendan McNally) for 4-0 halftime lead. After a second Herber goal gave the maroon and gold a 5-0 lead, the Mustangs rallied for five consecutive second half goals to force overtime. The Mustangs claimed victory with an early overtime goal. Joe Garvey led the Pack with six face-off wins and three grounders while Will Gaudet netted eight saves in net for the Pack who were stunned by the big comeback in the 6-5 loss.

The Wolfpack (2-3) marched past the visiting Brother Rice Crusaders in a 9-1 win on Saturday afternoon. Phil Gillespie, Jim Herber and Joe Garvey each netted a pair of goals for the maroon and gold. Julian Borysow, Sean Lynch and Cormack Donahue each added a solo strike in the season's best offensive production for the team. Ethan Jaffe led the defense with three takeaways and a pair of grounders while goalie Will Gaudet netted a pair of flashy saves in net for the Pack who controlled play for much of the game and marched past the Crusaders in the 9-1 win.

Huge Rally Upsets Pack in OT

The Grayslake Rams trailed the Pack (3-4) by a 7-1 count at halftime before the underdog Class-B opponent rallied to push the game to overtime in an 11-10 upset win for the visitors on Saturday afternoon. Jack Gavin tallied four first half goals, from Chris Basili 3 times and Will Yorke once, while Yorke, Patrick Murray and longpole Tim O'Neil each added a tally in a half dominated by the maroon and gold. The Rams opened the second half with four goals in a three-minute span before Patrick Murray (from Kevin O'Malley) gave the Pack an 8-5 lead after three periods. The green jerseys sandwiched a Brendan McNicholas strike (form Murray) with two pair of goals that tied the contest at 9-9 late in the game. The visitors grabbed the lead with three minutes remaining only to see Kevin O'Malley (from McNicholas) net a game-tying goal at the 14-second mark and, after a final second visitor shot rang off the post, the game went to overtime where the Rams tallied on their first possession for an 11-10 upset win. Mike Fuentes led the Pack defense with three grounders and three steals while Sam McCartney, Mike Flynn and Tim O'Neil each made several nice clearing plays from the defensive zone. Jabari Copeland and Mario Ruffolo combined for a dozen saves in net for the Pack.

OT Win Over Stubborn Rams

The Pack (1-2) needed overtime to defeat a stubborn Grayslake Central team by a 6-5 margin on the turf on Saturday. A Mike Babirak goal along with five first half saves by goalie Will Gaudet gave the Pack a narrow 1-0 halftime lead. Babirak doubled the Pack lead at 2-0 with a goal after a Ram tally. Cormack Donohue pushed the lead to 3-1 with a score. Donny Flynn (from Jim Herber) traded goals with the Rams and the maroon and gold led 4-2 after three sets. A pair of green strikes tied the game at four apiece before the stubborn Rams answered an apparent game-winner by Phillip Gillespie and sent the game to extra time at 5-5. Mike Basler (from Mitch Mizerek) netted the overtime game-winner for the Wolfpack in the exciting 6-5 win. Aidan Flood led the longploes with four grounders and three takeaways while Mitch Mizerek and Caleb Lawler combined for three steals in the hard-fought first win of the season for the Pack.

The Pack (3-2) rallied from a 4-goal first period deficit to force overtime before the Wolfpack fell to Fenwick in a 7-6 loss on the turf on Saturday afternoon. After a Brendan McNicholas goal, the Friars jumped to an early 4-1 lead. A pair of Will Yorke strikes (from Patrick Durkin and Chris Basili)) narrowed the maroon and gold shortfall to 4-3 at halftime. After a brown jersey tally, the Pack pulled even at five each on goals form Patrick Durkin (from McNicholas) and Yorke, his third tally of the game. After a Fenwick goal, McNicholas' second tally tied the game at sixes. A scoreless final period led to overtime and a disappointing 7-6 Fenwick win. Jabari Copeland netted ten saves in net and kept the Pack close. Mike Flynn and Mike Fuentes shared shadow duties on the main Fenwick offensive threat and nabbed a combined five grounders and five takeaways while fellow longpoles James Krumme, Brendan McNally and Billy Miya added nine grounders and two steals in a solid defensive effort that fell just short in overtime.

The Pack (1-0) opened the 2013 season with a 5-4 win over OPRF on Friday afternoon. Grant Lamble led the offense with three goals while Erik Smith and John Hannon each netted a goal. Joe Tonner led the defense with four grounders while John O'Malley stopped eleven shots in net for the Pack in the team's high school career debut.

The Wolfpack (3-1) used a four-goal second half run to halt the OPRF Huskies by an 8-3 tally in Oak Park on Friday night. Jack Gavin and Patrick Durkin (from Brendan McNicholas) each scored for a 2-0 Pack lead after one period. OPRF and Chris Basili (from Patrick Murray) traded goals before Will Yorke answered another Huskie tally on a pretty feed from Brian King and the maroon jerseys led 4-2 at half. The hosts narrowed the count to 4-3 before the maroon and gold rallied for a four-goal run on a pair of strikes by Will Yorke, a Brendan McNicholas tally (from Gavin) and a Basili goal that finished the scoring in the 8-3 win. Mike Flynn, James Krumme and Billy Miya led the longpole defense with a combined eight takeaways and ten grounders while goalie Jabari Copeland scooped three grounders and netted eight saves in net for the Pack whose strong second half offensive run halted the Huskies in the 8-3 win.

A pair of Libertyville goals within a minute’s span in the second half broke open a close 2-2 game en route to a 5-2 win over the Pack in the opening game of pool play in the OPRF Tournament in Oak Park on a chilly Saturday morning. Jack Gavin scored the first goal of the 2013 Wolfpack season assisted by John McGowan before Illinois' third-ranked team in preseason polling tallied a pair of goals for a 2-1 lead. Patrick Murray finished a Gavin feed for a goal that tied the game at two apiece at the halfway mark. Libertyville rallied for three unanswered second half tallies in the 5-2 loss. Chris Basil led the Pack with three groundballs while Billy Miya, John McGowan and Brendan McNicholas each nabbed a takeaway for the defense. Jabari Copeland added six saves in net for the Pack who could not answer the second half Wildcat rally in the 5-2 loss.

Wolfpack Holds Off Hoffman Estates

The Wolfpack held off a late surge form Hoffman Estates in 3-2 win in the second game of the OPRF Tournament on Saturday. Will Yorke scored an early goal from Chris Basili followed by a strike from Patrick O'Malley set up by his brother Kevin O'Malley and the Pack led 2-0 at the halfway point. Patrick Durkin scored an unassisted goal, the eventual game-winner for the Pack, midway in the second half. After a pair of late goals, the Pack held off the Hawks’ rally and preserved a 3-2 win. Mike Flynn led the longpoles with a pair of takeaways and two grounders while James Krumme and shortsticks Will Yorke, Tony Fuentes, John McGowan, Kevin O'Malley and Patrick O'Malley each added a swipe. Chris Basili also scooped a pair of grounders while goalkeeper Mario Ruffolo added three grounders and three saves in net for the Pack who held a much wider margin in play than the 3-2 winning score implies.

Wolfpack Runs Past Deerfield

The Pack (2-1) ran past Deerfield with six consecutive goals in a 6-2 win in the third and final game at the OPRF Tournament in Oak Park on Saturday. After the Warriors took a 2-0 lead, Brendan McNicholas halved the deficit with his first of four tallies. Jack Gavin tied the score at two with a goal set up by Patrick Murray before Gavin found McNicholas for a goal and a 3-2 lead with a single second left in the half. Murray then set up both McNicholas and Gavin for goals before McNicholas finished the scoring with a solo tally in the 6-2 win. Chris Basili led the defense with a pair of takeaways and two groundballs while Casey McDonald added a takeaway and a groundball and DJ Laux scooped a pair of grounders. Wolfpack goalie Will Gaudet netted seven saves and the Wolfpack ran past Deerfield with a six-goal run in the 6-2 win.
