As organizers ran through the list of winners, the anticipation built. The young woman at the microphone named the second to the last award. There was a hush in the crowd. Then came the big news the Wolfpack had been hoping and waiting for following months of hard work. The announcer said, "Best Large delegation goes to Saint Ignatius College Prep!"
SIMUN's "First Place - Best Large Delegation” win secured National Championship honors. Cheers from members of the Saint Ignatius Model United Nations team filled the room, along with a motivational phrase students often voice: "The strength of the Wolf is in the Pack!"

Ignatius delegates who attended the North American Invitational Model U.N. Conference at Georgetown University were very aware this was an important year. Program Director and teacher, Ms. Diane Haleas, just marked 25 years leading students in diplomatic efforts around the globe. Ms. Haleas has brought passion and much love to her leadership, inspiring decades of young people. She said, "I am so grateful to each delegate for their exceptional efforts, for several months in preparation and for their tireless work over the four days of committee sessions."

While in Washington, D.C., SIMUN faced formidable competition from top schools around the country. Saint Ignatius delegates individually delivered stand-out performances, which contributed to the Pack win. Ms. Haleas said, "Our SIMUN team gave one hundred percent effort over four days of intense debate, speeches, negotiation, draft resolution writing and collaboration. The SIMUN victory came as a result of a full team effort." To understand the scope of the victory, here's a little perspective:

NAIMUN brought together 3,300 delegates from 170+ schools from 30 countries.

Ms. Haleas gave special recognition to the SIMUN leadership team "for overseeing practices, giving motivational speeches and, most importantly, serving as great mentors. Three cheers for seniors Sasha Eckler, Hannah Kopec, Lukas Beltz, Evan Mehta, Sasha Rayne and Connor Mangone.

Congratulations to SIMUN for harnessing the positive power of hard work and collaboration!
