Correction to List of Pulitzer Winners
Last month's eNewsletter included a note about Bill Healy '01 who recently won a Pulitzer Prize in Audio Reporting. We also listed two other alumni, Jack Miles '60 and Marcia Chatelain '97, as previous Pulitzer winners, but forgot to include Jack Higgins '72. He began editorial cartooning for its student newspaper before he started freelancing for the Chicago Sun-Times. He became a full-time cartoonist for the paper in 1981. Higgins '72 was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1986; he won in 1989.
Sullivan '59 Grandson Makes U.S. Olympic Team
Dr. Michael Sullivan '59 recently watched his grandson, Ryan Murphy, qualify for the Paris Olympics. He is the first Team USA swimmer to qualify in the 100m and 200m at three consecutive Olympics (2016, 2020 and 2024). His winning time in the 200m backstroke was the fastest time in the world in 2024. He is also the 1st back-stroker in Olympic Trial history to win both the 100m and 200m races three consecutive times (2016, 2021, and 2024).
Noonan '88 Meets Pope Francis
During a pilgrimage to the places that shaped the life and spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a delegation from Loyola University of Chicago had the opportunity to have an audience with Pope Francis. Claire Noonan '88, the V.P. for Mission Integration at Loyola, was one of the lucky attendees. She can be seen on the right in the photo here. Noonan '88 is the daughter of Jerry Noonan '63 and the mother of Mary Schmitz '25. Schmitz '25 is the stroke on the national qualifying Ignatius women's 4 rowing team. The boys 4 were national champs.

Join Us For A New Movie Screening - TEILHARD: Visionary Scientist
The 2-hour PBS documentary on Teilhard de Chardin also features his Jesuit colleague, Rev. Pierre Leroy. It turns out that Fr. Leroy lived at 1076 W. Roosevelt--another reason we're hosting a screening! This could be a double "homecoming" as filmmaker Frank Frost was a Jesuit scholastic at the school in the 1960s and moderator of the film club (see the photo below).
