IHSA Sectional Champions!!!

In an unforgettable showdown, the Wolfpack claimed their 20th consecutive IHSA Sectional Championship, edging out fierce rivals Whitney Young. The day began with an impressive sweep in the 1-meter diving competition. Sophomore Caitlin Seder and freshman Knox Kruk set the tone, with Seder breaking both her freshman-sophomore record and the school record, finishing with an outstanding score of over 500 points. The relays proved equally dominant as the team of sophomore Livia Cremer, sophomore Mariposa Arroyo, junior Franchesca Sanchez, and senior captain Madi Manning powered to a victory in the 200 Medley Relay. In the 200 Freestyle, junior Maeve Shannon and freshman Greta Mikulaninec had impressive performances, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, to earn key points for the team. Cremer teamed up with junior Colleen Tracy for a 1-2 finish in the 200 Individual Medley (IM), while Manning and junior Angela Wideikis placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 50 Freestyle. Sanchez and junior Margaret Hickey posted strong performances, with Sanchez finishing first and Hickey third in the 100 Butterfly. In the 100 Freestyle, junior Liepa Niaura and Tracy secured second and third place finishes. Cremer and Arroyo then dominated the 500 Freestyle, finishing first and third. The 200 Freestyle Relay saw Niaura, Wideikis, Tracy, and Manning race to a runner-up finish, while Niaura and Sanchez continued their strong showings, finishing second and third in the 100 Backstroke. Arroyo and Wideikis scored big points for the team, placing third and sixth, respectively, in the 100 Breaststroke. The meet culminated with a thrilling victory in the 400 Freestyle Relay, where Sanchez, Niaura, Cremer, and Tracy clinched the sectional title. Thanks to these outstanding performances, the following nine athletes will represent Saint Ignatius College Prep at the 2024 IHSA State Championships: Madi Manning, Colleen Tracy, Angela Wideikis, Liepa Niaura, Franchesca Sanchez, Livia Cremer, Mariposa Arroyo, Caitlin Seder and Knox Kruk. With the sectional title in hand, the team now looks ahead to the state championships, poised for even greater success.
