Welcome to Wolfpack Boys Water Polo! Since our varsity beginnings in 2002, the boys water polo team has grown from a small startup program to one of the top teams in the state of Illinois. Our goal is to help student-athletes not only reach their water polo potential, but also reach their potential as Ignatians. Players grow in terms of work ethic, dedication, and teamwork - all while having a lot of fun along the way.
We offer two levels of play (Varsity and JV), and we play in one of the toughest conferences in the state, the Metro Catholic Aquatic Conference, which is home to all seven IHSA boys water polo state championship teams. Our thirty-game schedule offers student-athletes plenty of experience and opportunities to hone their water polo skills. The majority of our student-athletes actually join the Pack with little to no previous playing experience, but are able to make up that deficit quickly with enthusiasm and willingness to learn the sport.
Luis Martinez has been coaching water polo at Saint Ignatius College Prep since 2002 – first as the assistant coach, then as head coach since 2012. Coach Martinez is a proud member of the Saint Ignatius Class of 1999. He played water polo at the University of Illinois. Many of his Student-Athletes have been recognized on all-conference, all-sectional and all-state teams, with several going on to play water polo collegiately. Beyond the Wolfpack, Coach Martinez is also one of the coaches for the Chicago Park District Water Polo Club.

Pack Can't Find Win Column at York
The Wolfpack went 0-4 in the York Tournament, with losses to Naperville North (4-15), New Trier (4-15), Lyons (4-22), and Whitney Young (9-13). Rohan Robinson and Matteo led the scoring, with Angelo Geroulis filling in admirably in goal. The Pack travel to Fenwick on Monday.Read More -
Pack Hope to Bounce Back at York Invite
The Pack went 0-3 in the H-F Tournament, losing to H-F (6-9), Curie (6-19), and Shepard (8-11). Owen Snow, Daniel Fuchlya, and Matteo Velazquez led the attack. Mac Brody and Brody Bohan anchored the defense. The Pack are back in action this weekend at the York Tournament.Read More -
Pack Get the Luck of the Irish in First Win
The Pack defeated St. Patrick 11-5 at home. Rohan Robinson and Matteo Velazquez led the attack with 3 goals each, while Daniel Fuchlya and Owen Snow each chipped in with 2 goals apiece. Mac Brody anchored the defense with 8 saves. The Pack are back in action in the H-F tournament this weekend.Read More -
Pack Can't Groove at Palatine
The Pack finished in 9th place, following defeats by Waubonsie Valley (17-8), Oak Park (17-11), Loyola (9-6), and Mundelein (20-6). The Pack will return to action on Wednesday when they host St. Patrick.Read More -
Caravan Spoils Opener
The Pack lost to Mount Carmel 21-17 to open the season in a CCL match up. James Corby led the attack with 9 goals, while Rohan Robinson (4 goals) and Matteo Velazquez (3 goals) also contributed. Mac Brody had 12 saves in goal. The Pack will return to action this weekend at the Palatine Tournament.Read More
