Saint Ignatius debate is set apart by its unique format. The real world issues and control of the judge over your stance in a debate force students to learn about issues and consider sides they otherwise wouldn’t have. This connects them to the world, and can influence real change. Debate is also a team sport. Learning to work together while presenting your argument is a distinctive part of debate that sets it apart from other clubs. By teaching high school students the art of debate, we aim to make our members and the Saint Ignatius community more open to educated discussions. We will do this in a way that will not put others down, but encourage them to share their opinions. This can help foster growth, love and a passion for doing justice.
Margaret Thatcher/Prime Minister of the United Kingdom 1979-1990
“I love argument. I love debate. I don’t expect anyone just to sit there and agree with me – that’s not their job."
